Jack Hughes Snake Production Pics |
| Here are
some pics to enjoy back about 8 years ago when we worked out of a SINGLE CAR
GARAGE. We were either FREEZING our BUTTS OFF or MELTING in the intense
DESERT HEAT!! This is before we upgraded to a CNC Machine so this is totally
OLD SCHOOL! |
| I DO
NOT MISS the old days :) |
| Two pieces of wood are
cut to match, a Round-Over Dato is routed and the plastic insert rod
is placed into position before both units are sandwiched together and
clamped. The Plastic Inner Rod is my innovation to prevent wood rot and
gumming up of the system. |
| |
| The Snake pattern is
traced onto the wood block using a stencil. A sample of my Original Jack
Hughes Snake is always nearby for reference. (Dark Green Snake to the back) |
| |
| Each unit is hand cut
using the Bandsaw which has some pretty tricky inner cuts that have to be
cleaned up later. |
| |
| Each units edges are
cleaned up on the Disc Sander. |
| |
| The Snake is now
starting to take shape as the outter edges are rounded over using the
Router. My new JET Router/Shaper is much nicer but this one did the trick! |
| |
| Now comes the real work
as I hand sand each snake. When it comes to paint finishes, I am ANAL
RETENTIVE so there is no skimping on sanding and filling. |

| The pic on the left you
see the Snakes with the first coats of primer and the spot filling in
process. The one on the right has had a fresh primer coat and they are all
near ready for final painting. |
| The pic on the right
shows them near complete with the base paint colors on and ready for the
final decorative details which are hand painted and airbrushed. |
| Hope you enjoy the
pics!! |
